P-40E-1 - Curtiss A87A-2 (USAAF serial number unknown)
8th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force - Dobodura, New Guinea, May 1943
Nicknamed "ANNA MAY"
Pilot was Lt. Nelson Flack

Lt. Nelson D. Flack, Jr. joined the 8th Fighter Squadron after the group had moved to New Guinea. On 14 February, 1943, he survived head on fight with a Japanese Ki-61 Tony fighter over Wewak, shooting the Tony down and killing its pilot. But the Tony had hit his P-40 in the radiator and his engine temperature began climbing.

Flack immediately began to head for Dobodura but he only got part way when his engine began smoking heavily and he had to crash land in Japanese held territory. No pilot had ever survived to walk out on the ground from where he crashed. A rescue effort was immediately mounted. An Australian Army commando, Lt. Henstridge, was parachuted in to help him back. Once the two reached an area with a clearing, 2 Stinson L-5 artillery spotter planes tried to land to pick them up but both crashed on landing and their pilots had to join Lt. Flack and Lt. Henstridge to try to walk out. Chased for several days by a Japanese patrol that had just caught and executed a downed P-47 pilot nearby, they managed to walk out after fifteen grueling days to a place where natives loaded them into a dugout and got them to Australian forces.

After recovering, Lt. Flack went on to shoot down a total of 5 Japanese aircraft, making him an ace.

To load this skin into EAW instead of the Dragon skin, first copy the Dragon files into the game

folder. Then copy the files for this plane into the EAW folder and let them overwrite the Dragon

files.
